چکیده
This paper presents the fabrication of chirped Fiber Bragg Grating (CFBG) from uniform Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) by etching technique in order to utilize it as refractive index sensors. Etching is carried out with the presence of a layer of silicone oil on top of the hydrofluoric acid to achieve partial-etching of the FBGs. The partiallyetched FBGs exhibit two different modes: fundamental mode from the FBG region still protected by fiber cladding; modes excited by exposed FBG region due to different effective index. The CFBG has a temperature sensitivity of 0.021nm/°C. Refractive index response is also tested by immersing the CFBG into liquid with refractive index ranging from 1.328 to 1.370 and it is found that only modes excited by exposed FBG region respond linearly to refractive index change. This characteristic shows that the CFBG can be used for simultaneous sensing of temperature and refractive index.

Microchanneled Chirped Fibre Bragg Gratings For Simultaneous Refractive Index and Temperature Measurements
We report here the fabrication, charaterisation and refractive index sensing of two microchanneled chirped fiber Bragg gratings (MCFBGs) with different channel sizes (~550μm and ~1000μm). The chirped grating structures were UVinscribed in optical fibre and the microchannels were created in the middle of the CFBGs by femtosecond (fs) laser assisted chemical etching method. The creation of microc...

A simple and high sensitive method employing a hybrid long period grating (LPG)/chirped fiber Bragg grating (CFBG) for refractive index (RI) measurements is proposed and investigated experimentally. The wide wavelength range of backward cladding modes are excited through the coupling and recoupling between LPG and CFBG. Experimental results indicate that the recoupled cladding modes between LPG...
متن کاملA Highly Sensitive Two-Dimensional Inclinometer Based on Two Etched Chirped-Fiber-Grating Arrays †
We present a novel two-dimensional fiber-optic inclinometer with high sensitivity by crisscrossing two etched chirped fiber Bragg gratings (CFBG) arrays. Each array is composed of two symmetrically-arranged CFBGs. By etching away most of the claddings of the CFBGs to expose the evanescent wave, the reflection spectra are highly sensitive to the surrounding index change. When we immerse only par...

A microhole array in a common single-mode fiber is fabricated by selective chemical etching of femtosecond-laser-induced fiber Bragg grating (FBG), which has a laser-modified region extending from the fiber core to the cladding-air boundary due to laser self-focusing. The shape and size of the orderly microhole on the fiber surface are controlled via changing conditions of FBG fabrication and c...

We solve the coupled mode equations governing the chalcogenide nonlinear fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) numerically, and obtain the bistability characteristics. The characteristics of the chalcogenide nonlinear FBGs such as: switching threshold intensity, bistability interval and on-off switching ratio are studied. The effects of FBG length and its third order nonlinear refractive index on FBG cha...
